The sculpture depicts a local legend about the brave shepherd boy Jakob and the evil dragon that lived in the Postojna Cave. A brave shepherd boy from the village of Šmihel pod Nanosom defeated a ravenous dragon and received a bag made of dragon skin from the locals as a thank you. The entire legend is also described in the picture book Jacob and the Dragon of Postojna, which is also translated into English and Italian.
